Evernote - your memory on the internet, desktop, smartphone, at the cloud...

A few years ago I envisioned a serious problem of accessing my information stored in many individual places;  I used a cell phone (a very basic one), a Palm, a computer in the company, another at home ... equipment that did not talk, did not understand each other.

When I was at home or on the street and needed some information that was in my office - no deal; if I was in the office and wanted information from a computer at home, I could forget it; the same for any information on hardcopy as a doctor receipt, proof of payment of any bill etc...
The years passed by, the cell phone turned into a smartphone (Palm dropped out), I added a Mac and a tablet (Nook) to this story and my desire & need to access any information from any device, has just increased.
With the file synchronization provided by Dropbox some of the problems were solved, but the big jump in quality and productivity came with Evernote. Much more than a simple software to take notes, Evernote is a powerful information manager that can be in text, figures, tables, PDF, audio, video, written notes and any other files.

I use Evernote on Windows, Mac, integrated into the browser (Chrome in my case) and tablet (Color Nook, which runs Android 2.2), all the information I want - ALL - are automatically synchronized between all equipment and the cloud.
I'm in a meeting and need to take notes ? just hit CTRL-ALT-N and start typing, I'm surfing the web and saw something that I want to save ? Just capture it to Evernote. I made a payment over the Internet? Just save the PDF receipt in a specific folder monitored by Evernote, that will identify and import it into a new note automatically.
The Evernote works with folders (and subfolders) and tags (labels), allowing each user to adopt the system of organization that is convenient for him/her, the search engine is quite powerful and even search for text within PDF and other manuscript files (Evernote has an efficient system of OCR).
Another interesting capability of Evernote is to synchronize files between multiple computers, including different platforms, not asubstitute for unique solutions or Dropbox sync / backup capabilities but can be quite useful.
The Evernote has a completely free version, so why not to try it ? The Premium version, which offers some differences such as increased storage space, OCR faster, ad-free versions for Windows and Mac and access offline versions Mobile (Android, iPad, iPod) costs $ 4.99 per month or $ 45 a year.
